Torbay Council and the BBC are hosting a music event on Paignton Green on Saturday 19 May 2012.
As part of a fantastic local summer programme planned for the Olympic and Jubilee Celebrations, BBC Radio 1 is kick starting the summer with a festival Live in Torbay.
Radio 1 and Radio 1xtra regulars Chris Moyles, Fearne Cotton, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Mistajam and Danny Howard will be celebrating the beginning of the summer season with a live broadcast from Paignton, Torbay. Alongside the Radio 1 team, there will be performances from Example, Jaguar Skills and Eric Prydz. The event will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra from 4pm – 11pm.
Gordon Oliver, Torbay’s Mayor and Leader, said: “Torbay is extremely pleased to welcome Radio 1 to Torbay. This prestigious event gives our local young people the opportunity to enjoy a high profile national music event on their doorstep. It will also generate a large amount of great coverage for the area and will have a positive direct economic impact.
“The Events Forum was formed to support local events and attract large-scale events such as this. It is great in this Olympic and Jubilee celebration year, and with all the other local and high profile local events taking place, that we are able to showcase all that is good about the Bay. “These type of events help reinforce the message that this is a place where people want to live, work and visit.”
Jason Carter, Event Director, says: “Radio 1 is very excited to finally be returning to the south coast. We have a great summer of events for this really special Olympic year for the UK and are delighted to be launching our summer in Torbay with such a great DJ line-up.”
8,000 tickets will be available for residents of Torbay and the surrounding areas. If you are local to Torbay and the surrounding areas keep listening to BBC Radio 1 on the 4 May for information on how you can obtain a ticket and check out our website www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 for details.
