Speed Networking event at Dartington Hall Monday 28th November

We have organised a Speed Networking event at Dartington Hall. Speed Networking aims to provide fresh contacts to all members of both South Devon and the whole county’s business communities through networking, business sharing and socialising.

Delegates will have the opportunity to meet other like-minded business people in a friendly and casual atmosphere. This can then be built on at subsequent events and meetings to bring together prosperous business relationships and working partnerships.

• Make more new business contacts at one event than most people will make in 6 months
• Network with other professionals, 1:1, a few minutes at a time
• Leave with a pocket full of business cards and a ton of new business connections
• Chances are you’ll meet lots of people you wish you had more time with.

Extra networking time will be allocated over a delicious lunch.

As you know the members of our affiliate chambers have access to the Devon Chamber membership price for our events, for this particular event the cost is only £20 (Plus VAT). If your members do wish to book, please ensure they note on the booking form that they are members of your chamber.

It’s really too good of an opportunity to pass up. It would be really appreciated If you could forward on this invitation and attached flyer to your fellow members, as it would be fantastic to have a broad spectrum of delegates attending from all areas of South Devon.

Devon Chamber is running some careers fairs across Devon.

This is a national initiative supported by government
The objective is to provide inspirational careers events for 14-24 year olds which will inform young people about the range of career opportunities, including further study e.g. university and also apprenticeships.

These are the events planned so far:

  • Paignton (South Devon College) Wednesday 16 March 12noon to 4pm and 5pm to 7.30pm
  • Tavistock Friday 15 April  11am to 3.00pm
  • Newton Abbot Thursday 28 April 12 noon to early evening (exact times tbc)
  • Tiverton tbc

We are looking for a range of businesses to come along to the events and talk to young people informally about their business, their sector e.g. accountancy / banking / construction etc and also further / higher education.

Each business / individual employer will be provided with a table and chair, pinboards etc and can bring along as much or as little promotional material as they wish. The key priority is to give young people the opportunity to meet “real” businesses and to understand the opportunities available. There is no charge for exhibitors or for attendance. This is a great opportunity to help young people, particularly if the business is looking to recruit, and also for the business to contribute to their local community and to promote their business to parents and teachers etc. as well as young people.

Workshop 1 – The Work before the Work

Thursday 17th March 2016 – CANCELLED

Workshop 2 – Going for growth

Thursday 26th June 2016
This is where the rubber meets the road and we’ll explore the finer points of market positioning, customer retention, customer acquisition and developing a systems-led process for lead generation and or brand awareness. It will require you to do a ‘live’ examination of your business — yes, you might have to stand up in front of the group — and consider how things might be done differently or not at all (throwing good money after bad is a common theme with any exercise around sales, marketing and business development).

Location: Boyce Hatton solicitors, 58 The Terrace, Torquay, Devon TQ1 1DE

Time: 12:30pm-2.00pm   Book your place here Workshop 2

Workshop 3 – It’s all about the people

Thursday 15th September 2016
The aim of any business should be to develop every person to their full potential which in turn will abet the development of the company. But of course, much like the Work before the Work, you’ll need to consider, even if, as yet, you employ no staff, why someone would want to work for you, invest their energies in the business and hang around for the long term. The thing is Millennia’s are looking for a different experience than the 9-5 et al existence that so many businesses still believe is all they have to do. In particular, they’re looking for a business that has a good vibe which is colloquial way of saying they want to work something that has a sense of purpose, understands its mission and has a higher aim than simply generating great gobs of cash for the owners. If this sounds a bit woolly, what it’s getting at is the need to engage your staff on a daily basis so that they in turn engage your customers which in turn leads to a healthy return etc.

Location: Boyce Hatton solicitors, 58 The Terrace, Torquay, Devon TQ1 1DE

Time: 12:30pm-2.00pm   Book your place here Workshop 3

Workshop 4 – TBC

When it’s not face to face.
We hear how important first impressions are, often the first impression is not in person. A great variety of factors including your phone number, email address can have a significant influence on a potential customer. The next scenario could have a greater impact, your customer isn’t able to contact you.
We will guide you through the options available and help you make your business appear BIG, and point you in a direction that will save you hassle and money.

Other topics we can help with are …….. systems, process, databases, email structures, folder permissions and structures, cloud solutions (pro’s and con’s), software purchasing, licensing, compliance, security, virus, servers or the myriad of general IT issues one can have and my pet topic.. BACK UPS

We look forward to seeing you there
