The Torquay Chamber of Commerce and local leading business owners have put forward a proposal to Torbay Council to establish a year round market experience utilising the events space at the Banjo in Princess Gardens on Torquay Harbour. We recently ran an online survey across our website and social media platforms to gauge initial thoughts and feedback from both the local business and residential community.
The response was overwhelmingly positive and we had some wonderful feedback and insights with balanced arguments which we will share with Torbay Council.
Over 99% of responses were from residents of Torbay and almost a quarter owned a business in the Bay.
Overwhelmingly, 87% would like to see a Harbourside market – either for Christmas or permanent, 4% are unsure and 9% are opposed to the idea.
If the Harbourside market is given the go-ahead, the project will be managed by the Chamber of Commerce initially and subsequently a management company would be formed. As the site has been renovated by approximately £250K from the Accelerated Funding from the Government we are negotiating with the Council regarding rent. This will not only provide the Council with an income but will help to maintain the upkeep and high standard of the cabins.
We will continue to liaise with the Council with the aim of making the Harbourside markets become a reality.
We have had lots of offers of support and we will be in touch with everyone individually but if you wish to contact his please email us.
