As you are aware, we have been asking as many people to throw their weight behind the campaign to allow catch and release fishing. Torbay is said to have an abundance of the fish, which wouldn’t be caught but instead tagged for scientific research purposes.
The Torquay Chamber of Commerce chair, Susie Colley, says the proposed industry could attract a lot of people to the area after proving popular in other countries.
“If skippers can obtain licences and certification from DEFRA this year, it will give them time to alter their boats accordingly, to advertise their diversification to Catch and Release for either later in the year or next year. This is a huge economic opportunity for tourism and leisure which is so vital for our Torbay economy due to challenges around Brexit and this dreadful pandemic.”

There is a fantastic commercial opportunity for Torbay to join with this, but there is a deadline of 15th February for us to apply to the Government, if we want it to happen this year.
